About Me

Hello. I’m Charmgil Hong.

I am an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and the School of Applied Artificial Intelligence at Handong Global University, Korea. My research interests focus on developing and applying machine learning and data mining techniques to solve large and complex data-driven problems. Before joining Handong, I had the privilege of studying under the guidance of Dr. Milos Hauskrecht and earning my PhD from the University of Pittsburgh.

Research Interest

Recent years, I have been primarily working on: (1) Machine learning with different modalities; (2) Outlier detection with a focus on video anomaly detection; and (3) Applications of (1) and (2) to the medical and industrial domains.

I am also interested in: (4) AI/ICT for Korean unification and the development of third world countries.
